Madrid is easily accessible by air, rail, and road. For more sustainable travel, we recommend traveling by rail or road if possible.
Air Travel:
1. Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD)
Madrid-Barajas is Spain’s main international airport and one of the busiest in Europe. It is located just 12 km from the city center and is well-connected by public transportation.
• Over 100 direct connections to European cities.
• Direct flights from major cities such as London, Paris, Berlin, Rome, Amsterdam, Lisbon, Frankfurt, Brussels and many more.
• Metro Line 8 connects the airport to Nuevos Ministerios in under 25 minutes.
• Airport Express Bus (Exprés 203): A 24-hour service with stops at O'Donnell, Plaza de Cibeles, and Atocha Renfe (Atocha stop only operates during daytime hours).
• Bus Line 200: Connects the airport with Avenida de América transport hub, where you can transfer to several metro and intercity bus lines.
2. Barcelona El Prat Airport (BCN)
While located in Barcelona, this is another major international hub in Spain. From Barcelona, you can reach Madrid via high-speed train (AVE), which takes about 2.5–3 hours.
• Frequent AVE trains (up to every 30 minutes).
• Direct flights to and from most major international cities.
3. Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport (AGP)
Located in southern Spain, Málaga Airport is another option, particularly for those coming from southern Europe. The AVE train from Málaga to Madrid takes around 2.5–3 hours.
• High-speed rail (AVE) from Málaga to Madrid.
• Direct flights to London, Paris, Rome, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Casablanca, Doha, and more.
Rail:
Spain’s rail network is modern, efficient, and includes an extensive high-speed train (AVE) system operated by Renfe, Spain’s national rail provider.
• Madrid is the central hub of the Spanish rail system.
• High-speed AVE trains connect Madrid with major cities such as Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Málaga, and Zaragoza.
• International trains also operate to/from France (e.g., Paris, Marseille via Barcelona).

Road:
Madrid is well-connected by an extensive road network and several long-distance bus services.
1. ALSA: One of the largest bus operators in Spain and Europe, offering national and international routes.
2. FlixBus: Provides services from various European cities to Madrid.
• Long-distance buses arrive at stations such as Estación Sur de Autobuses and Avenida de América.
• Travel by car is also convenient via Spain’s major highways (A-1 to A-6 converge in Madrid).
• Parking is available at various public and private facilities throughout the city.
